This congenial bar-lounge doesn’t overexert itself, relying on a solid beer list and a five-hour happy hour to hook its share of the thirsty East Village throng. Most patrons gather along the sizeable L-shaped bar in front, but there’s more than enough seating room on the plush black sofa and the bar stools pulled up to a narrow side wall counter. Votive candles sparkle throughout, adding a much-needed softness to an atmosphere otherwise dominated by a groovy red disco ceiling. The back area is a rotating showcase of local art, like the huge mixed-media creations recently crowding the pool table. The beer list is locally minded: Kelso, Brooklyn Lager and Captain Lawrence are on tap. If you’re hankering for more global flavors, French absinthe (that’s the one with the wormwood, kids) is served as well.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
