Profile

This relaxed Hell's Kitchen hangout has the vibe of a downtown lounge. The copper-top front bar gleams under a wash of red light and flickering candles (as well as televisions large and small) lend an ambient glow to the brick-walled main room. Groups of friends settle into oversized velvet sofas or take over the narrow back room to toast a birthday with pints. The mixed crowd of post-collegiate professionals, sports fans and neighborhood regulars doesn't come here for swishy cocktails and uptown cuisine. Instead, they're fine with beer, wine and the usual mixed drinks alongside a comfort-food bar menu of burgers, buffalo wings, and quesadillas.

Went here the first night I lived in HK, had no idea what it was, now I plan on making it my local. Here's why: - its big and labyrinthine and sorta mysterious - drinks are strong, I bet the bartender refuses to make Cosmos - music booking with integrity. I saw The Hrny Wrms who are very early 80's Wire-like experimental band - it has a super mixed crowd. everything from old jazz hounds to post-punk riot grrls to Butor nerds reading on couches. Overall it reminds me more of the old Club 57 back in the 80s, without the glue sniffing. Even performance art type cabaret on Mondays.
