Profile

Located on a nondescript stretch of Broome Street, Barrio Chino (which means "Chinese 'hood" in Spanish) is a perfect fit for a particular part of the Lower East Side where the Chinese and Latino communities intersect. The decor incorporates Asian accents like colorful hanging paper lanterns and Chinese portraits in an airy space with exposed brick walls, dark wood bar, and open shelves filled with tequila. The agave liquor is the main draw here; they've got 50 kinds, and each shot comes with a peppery sangrita chaser. If it's a mixed drink you want, choose from a list of house specials, including a fruity, red sangria, and three varieties of caipirinha. Need something to absorb all that hooch? Try one of the "antojitos," or appetizers, cooked on the spot in a little side kitchen.

Extra

Chino's infused tequilas are a must. For a delicious kick, try jalapeño or habanero-infused tequilas with your favorite flavored margarita.

a 12% tip is really insulting. unless the waitress was really just plain rude to you, you should not go through life thinking that a 12% tip is ok. i have been here in the past and went again recently and find the food and service consistent and good. service is not four seasons good, but friendly and casual. i am not a waitress but i do understand how tipping works in this country, and 12% is not enough.

Perfect!

After eating here, I actually feel I may have given other restaurants I have reviewed too high a rating. This place is perfectly sized to feel intimate and exclusive without feeling boxed in. It has the air of a secret find and there is no pretentiousness to be found. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly... And the food and drinks are great. I'd recommend the steak tacos and the habaƱero/grapefruit margaritas (althought the standard ones are just as tasty). The tequila selection is awesome. The ceviche is authentic and good, but I've had better. I'd also recommend getting there early as I'm not the only city dweller who has discovered this excellent place. It get's packed.
