The name gives the place a roadhouse quality. But in fact, Beer Bar, the casual section of the upscale Café Centro, is more about nursing cocktails and chatting up that cutie from the next cubicle than it is about pounding shots of JD and pulling Marlboro Reds out of the rolled-up sleeve of your undershirt. "You're not Mark, are you?"—No, I'm not, but Beer Bar is definitely a blind-date kind of place. And in warmer months, when the patio is open, the flirty, conquest-minded vibe hangs even thicker in the air. It's worth enduring, however, since the bar interior practically has frost on the walls from the pumped-too-high AC. — Matt Dobkin
