B.E.S. -- short for Boutique Eat Shop, but pronounced simply “bess”—is a unique combination of gallery and bar. The owner, Patrick Duffy (sadly, not Step by Step's Patrick Duffy), classifies BES as a “by artist for artist” space, and has stocked it with pieces from New York art houses like Robert Goff and Sotheby’s. The Gagosian crowd mingles with fashionistas from nearby MILK Studios over a menu reminiscent of the North woods with a continental twist (maple sausage, panna cotta). Drinks include a bourbon-heavy (in a good way) Old-Fashioned, while a lighter option is the Black Pear—Bulldog gin, hum hibiscus, lime, mint and red grapes). Ingredients (both food and drink) are largely organic. — Emma Barker
