Profile

The management of this Bleecker Street music landmark could hardly have known when they opened that the place would indeed stick it out until the bitter end. But that's just what it's done, while once nearby competitors like the Village Gate and Folk City long ago bit the dust. Some thirty-five years after the Bleecker Street strip ceased to be the epicenter of local hipsterism, the Bitter End makes do with unexceptional singer-songwriters and bar bands. But habitués of the joint seem to be there because...well, why not imbibe at a place where Bill Cosby and Bob Dylan honed their chops?

Saw Ashley 1st on 10/24/06 - She was Hot!

I was in town on business and saw an ad in the Village Voice for band called Ashley 1st. She was at the Bitter End on 10/24/06 and I had a great seat! The staff was friendly, the cover charge minimal and the sound was pretty decent. I wish they had food, but they were cool about bringing in your own stuff. The tables were a great size. The place was packed but I never felt crowded. Can't wait to catch Ashley 1st again next time I'm in town.
