The management of this Bleecker Street music landmark could hardly have known when they opened that the place would indeed stick it out until the bitter end. But that's just what it's done, while once nearby competitors like the Village Gate and Folk City long ago bit the dust. Some thirty-five years after the Bleecker Street strip ceased to be the epicenter of local hipsterism, the Bitter End makes do with unexceptional singer-songwriters and bar bands. But habitués of the joint seem to be there because...well, why not imbibe at a place where Bill Cosby and Bob Dylan honed their chops?
