This Battery Park City spot channels a Prohibition-era speakeasy with the right combination of glamour and grittiness: lots of dark wood and leather, plus a dusty gold sheen over everything from the tables to the patterned wallpaper. Dimmed chandeliers hang from the mirrored ceiling, while a bookshelf holds a few novels and various knickknacks, including a figurine of the bar’s svelte hound mascot. Whether they’re sitting at tall seats and tables at the long bar in the front room or the metallic armchairs in the back, patrons can sip drinks named for the lesser-known works of great writers, like The Curse of Lono (vodka, prosecco and strawberries), after the book by Hunter S. Thompson. The crowd is mostly Wall Street after-work, and packs of women still wearing their FiDi business attire take great relish in asking the bartender for An Ideal Husband, a well-layered fusion of Pimm’s No. 1, prosecco, lemon, ginger, and mint.
