Profile
If the Coen Brothers were scouting for a Prohibition-era bar in Greenpoint, they’d stop looking once they chanced upon Black Rabbit with its prewar light fixtures, nineteenth-century floorboards, and flower boxes in the windows. Booths outfitted with saloon-style swinging doors are so private that you’ll need to button-activate a lightbulb to get your waiter’s attention. But that’s just the sort of detail that Ethan and Joel get off on. Sure, house concoctions like the Black List (rye whiskey, liquid ginger and lemon juice) and menu items like tangy Welsh rarebit read a little too British pub, but there are plot points to be found in such digressions. A garden with parasol-shaded picnic tables is open until 10 p.m.; the sumptuous interior, complete with working fireplace, suggests cinematical possibilities on a snowy evening.

One of the great Brooklyn bars. Must see.

I hate to see this bar get too busy, so I hesitate to tell people about it. This bar is fantastic if you happen to really love a well designed and beautiful old bar. It's the kind of bar you can sit at for hours. Deep enough to sit straight forward without bumping your knees, high enough to accommodate anyone, foot rest (very important), hooks for your bag, comfortable stools and so much to look at in the excellent wood design and great interior. The beer list is very good - lots to choose from and great drafts. I've been here twice and happy to see something seasonal each time. The music is shockingly good - not always the case with an old school bar, I was surprised. They even have a nice small menu if you're feeling peckish. I had the mini cheeseburgers and they were good.
Crowded & Uncomfortable

"So many places to sit".... what! If you don't get one of the big booths or a spot at the bar, you're forced to stand in the middle alleyway, sort of an awkward space to stand with your beer while people hussle by. It's got a nice decor and all but I don't see the point in going out of your way to come here, especially on one of their busier nights.
