The Astoria nightlife fixtures here—wrought iron, glistening tile—suggest just another neighborhood bar. But Blackbird’s delivers something a bit more notable: an easygoing All-American sports spot, smart enough for dinner with parents but loose enough for all-day weekend drinking sessions. The interior is lovingly maintained and immaculately clean, featuring log-cabin-style walls, flat-screens, darts, and a jukebox, and the whole space is enveloped in enormous bay windows. The staff is unpretentious even in all black uniforms and knowledgeable about the international twelve-strong tap list (mostly German beers like Hofbrau, Weinhenstephaner, and Radeberger Pilsner alongside the hometown Coney Island Lager.) The quasi-tapas—elegant versions of pub grub like salsa, burgers, and sliders—impress; late at night, you even get a complimentary pint with your nosh.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
