This tribal-themed, dimly-lit lounge—adorned with blue walls, back-lit fish tanks teeming with neon sea life, and tribal masks peering out from behind the bar—is the crown jewel of Bay Ridge’s Third Avenue nightlife strip. A velvet rope, pricey drinks, and an attractive bar staff offers a city vibe for the family-dominated deep-Brooklyn neighborhood; a five-dollar cover charge and an arbitrary 25-years-old age limit for guys (it’s 21 for women) reminds patrons they’re still not in Manhattan. As the night wears on, Blue Zoo’s smallish space gets packed with well-gelled and well-heeled Bay Ridge types looking to pair off—and the huge, navy, plush couches become the domain of clandestine make-out sessions between those libertines in Ed Hardy sparkles, a few martinis deep, and their scantily clad lady friends.
