With brick walls, low lights and chocolate-brown couches, bOb is one of the coziest drinking destinations on the Lower East Side. But as soon as the clock strikes twelve, the subdued vibe disappears and the small, box-shaped venue turns into a full-on dance party. Rotating DJs spin nightly—usually a mix of hip-hop, reggae and R&B—and young, cute crowds pack in to get down like Saturday night, every night. Arrive early to enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere and to soak in the monthly-rotating art installations that adorn the walls. Come after the party starts and you'll be standing all night, soaking in the sweat-and-smoke stench of a poorly-ventilated space.
ExtraBathrooms here sometimes turn into makeshift bedrooms as "partners" enter and take their time—roughly seven minutes of it—coming out. Note to single women: Sometimes guys in this crowd don't seem to understand the phrase "no means no."
