With this Alphabet City gastropub, the owner of Ella and GalleryBar pays tribute to the Boulton & Watt steam engine. Bronze metal busts of Matthew Boulton and James Watt grace the space, while the corroded factory interiors unfinished brick walls, tin-sheeted ceilings, and naked pipe work - are lit by the warm glow of industrial lamps and expansive windows. Chef David Rotter crafts a menu featuring traditional bar-fare, burgers, salads, and entrées, but leaves his true mark of ingenuity with the special homemade pickles (from pineapple with habanero, mint and basil to okra with garlic and caraway seeds). Other than a good selection of beer and wine, there is a choice list of nine cocktails featuring drinks like The First Word - a potent dose of Rittenhouse rye with chartreuse, Benedictine and lemon - and a mean apple martini made with apple preserves.
