Planet Hollywood proprietor Bruce Willis is a minority investor here, along with owners Lenny Linar and Chris Sileo, formerly of The Plaza—which may explain why this wine bar belies its East Village address. Occupying the ground floor corner of the Avalon apartment megaplex, the squeaky-clean interior—high ceilings, wood paneling, leather couches, glass walls, and a bizarre illuminated bush by the back wall—lacks intimacy. The generic menu is full of bar food standards: wings, nachos, and shrimp cocktail. Still, the wine list is remarkably diverse and some glasses start at $7, and there’s prime people-watching to be had on the sidewalk patio.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
