Considering its midtown location, Brickyard Gastropub could have blended in with the area’s myriad sports bars. However—a few flatscreens aside—its notable menu makes it something else entirely. The New American cuisine here emphasizes local, sustainable foods, mainly from upstate, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and changes every three months to stay seasonal. They also rotate the enormous beer selection (24 beers on tap, and 27 types of bottles) regularly as well. The décor is understated but warm—there are some exposed brick walls, a lot of rich woods and muted earth tones, and the back room is a little loungier than the front. Also on hand: kobe beef sliders, weekend brunches, $9 beer flights, DJs, and growlers.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
