The juggernaut of Club Row didn’t just arbitrarily tack that “Luxe” onto its name: That came along with a redesigned interior and a new-and-improved sound system. The African theme is far from gone, with enough mohair and zebra print to fill Hemingway’s parlor, not to mention the elephant tusks strapped to each pillar. There’s also a little Paris tossed in (think brasserie fixtures)—though you’ll rarely see a crowd of gelled patrons with espresso tans slam-dancing on the Champs-Élysées. Still, some changes are for the better: The transplanting of the D.J. booth to the back of the club makes for more space, plus a raised strip between the banquettes provides a handy stage for the half-naked dance troupe, which appears nightly and is entirely comprised of Beyoncé-video extras (or so it seems). Worry not, the price tags haven’t changed: That bottle of Veuve Cliquot Balthazar will still run you $3,800.
