Profile

An air of vintage class pervades this sprawling midtown cigar bar—just what you'd expect from the team responsible for Grand Central's Campbell Apartment. Yellow wallpaper and hand-carved wooden bookcases stuffed with worn hardbacks give the club's main level and large lofted hideaway the feel of an Ivy League alumni club. Jazz groups perform on a patch of floorspace downstairs beneath cathedral-like windows, with the modern, mellow groove of a trumpeter (or even a didgeridoo player) on one night giving way to the swing of crooned standards and an 11-piece orchestra on another. The crowd of men (many of them balding and dressed in jacket and tie) and some younger women (in skirts or cocktail dresses) buzz from upholstered sofa chairs and couches to the long bar. With 20 or so cigars in a glass-enclosed humidor, even non-smokers may experience a whiff of nostalgia for the days of indoor smoking as they watch how the club's lighting catches swirls of smoke just right. But that feeling's likely to wear off once they get a whiff of themselves outdoors.

Classic - go back in time

I lived right down the street form this place an it took my brother visiting from Buffalo to get me to check it out - you know how that goes. It turned out to be a real nice find - a gem. I have always been a Sinatra fan and because of my age - I never had the opportunity to see him perform live. My perception of how he played small clubs is pretty much what I found at the Carnegie Club. The 11 piece band did a nice job of cranking out the music - while the singer did a wonderful job not only singing those old tune but telling interesting Sinatra stories in between songs. Yes, it was a little too smoky from the cigars - Yes it was hard to see the "stage" and yes it was a little too crowded but I just gotta believe that's what some of his shows were like. It was all that and great! We had a really good time and hope to return again real soon. Ova-Nee

Delightful Evening

I work on the block and wish I had known about this place long ago. I was introduced by an associate after work on a Friday and returned the next night with my wife to see tha Sinatra show. What an amazing evening. This place is like going back in time. The waitresses are all dressed in black and pearls and attend quickly to every request. The drinks are a amazing, and where else will you find a big band in a bar with Sinatra. I am not much of a cigar smoker but the staff was very good with recomendations. Don't walk run to the Carnegie Club, I will be back.
