A fairly forthright neighborhood bar, Cassidy’s fills up with regulars who come in to hear tribute bands (a holdover from its earlier incarnation as the rocking Bottoms Up), chat up the bartender or catch a favorite sports team on any one of six TVs. The friendly staff isn’t above breaking into a shimmy when Tom Jones’s “It’s Not Unusual” comes up on the jukebox. The décor is by-the-book funky: beer and liquor company tchotchkes, lava lamps, strings of twinkle lights, plus headshots of actors (the cast of Taxi; Laura Prepon of That ‘70s Show) who probably have never come through the door. Nevertheless, it’s a popular spot for tattooed 20-somethings and gray-haired guys with their ladies. Even when too-good-for-karaoke singers take to the mic on Friday nights, the rest of the crowd is more than willing to show ‘em what singing under the influence is supposed to sound like.
