Almost identical to its sister bar on the Upper East Side, this intimate Murray Hill spot is best suited for parties of two. Any larger and you’re guaranteed an interlude with the neighboring group; tables are neatly squeezed inside the rectangular space, outfitted with blood-orange walls, translucent white ceiling-lamp fixtures, cherrywood paneled floors, and a bistro-standard mirrors-and-chalkboard combo (the latter advertising Cavatappo’s rotating specials and happy hours, when wines can be had on the cheap). The wine list—mostly Western European selections, along with a few choices from South America and South Africa—doesn’t intimidate; adequate pairings for the appropriately limited menu—mostly small plates, pizzas, and salads—round out the mix.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
