Profile

The Chelsea Brewing Company manifests multiple personalities. The indoor bar affects a chummy sportsmanship via amateur golfers from the adjacent driving range and corporate softball teams. Outdoors, a rowdier crowd of professionals on the cusp of 30 cruise with a nouveaux-riche demeanor substantiated by the spillover from the nearby marina. Upstairs, the mezzanine-level lounge, with its fireplace and its two-story glass windows overlooking the river, may even trigger a sense of noblesse oblige. Whatever your delusion, master brewer Chris Sheehan has your poison—almost 30 brews, some dispensed from the copper-ringed barrels over the bar. (The Solstice Wheat won gold in the Great American Beer Festival.) Late in the evening, the captivating view of New Jersey, coupled with a menu of salads, pizzas and, deserts, may even have you waxing romantic. A fourth personality?

Private tours of the brewery can be arranged.

Come for the view, not the food.

Do not in anyway, shape, or form, make this a destination for the food. Come here only to sit outside on the water and have a beer. Otherwise, look elsewhere. The food is absolutely terrible and ridiculously over priced - and I mean, ridiculously over priced especially for such poor quality. The service is horrendously slow and incompetent. The beer is ok. However, if you can manage to sit out in the sun next to the water, it's not a bad place to spend an afternoon. Just don't come hungry... even the appetizers aren't worth it, unless you only eat over priced, over cooked, fried food.

Terrible food, equally terrible service.

We were at the adjacent driving range at Chelsea Piers when the we decided to grab a bite. We thought it would be easy enough to just stop into the brewery next door - it looked beautiful! Our waiter came to take our orders - and then we never saw him again... Another guy came to bring us our food - the nachos we ordered were disgusting and we barely touched them - greasy chips, a little cheese (which was hard), a dollop of sour cream and salsa and what I think was supposed to pass as guacamole - it was just gross. Then our entrees came - overcooked chicken on a bun, no condiments, and soggy fries. We ran out of drinks and our waiter never came back to ask us if we needed refills. When it came time to get the check I had to stand up and walk around the restaurant to flag down ANY employee - a bus boy, who found our waiter and managed to get him to bring us the check. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE dining experience all around. Next time we hit up the driving range, we're leaving the piers to eat. Never again.
