"The Commons" is an anomaly in West Chelsea—a regular pub serving regular beer and burgers to regular folks. Its weather-beaten, wood-planked floor hasn't gleamed for decades, and there isn't a techno beat to be heard among the juke's wonderful selection of country, folk and classic rock tunes. During happy hour, the barflies are almost all male; the older ones do like to hit on the ladies, but only in the most gentlemanly fashion, i.e., offering to teach you the two-step. In summer, the shady back patio draws a more diverse crowd, ranging from local families to post-collegiate groups to trendy types who couldn't get a table at Bottino next door.
