Profile

After opening in June 2006, this Irish-expat’s pub on a formerly desolate stretch of Fourth Avenue quickly became the local destination for World Cup fanatics. Today, the large unpretentious bar attracts young, bright-eyed liberal arts grads (plus a few hardcore Brooklynites) even on nights when the three flat screen monitors switch from sporting events to bartender-curated music-videos. Yet whatever the televised visuals, the enormous picture window at back still provides the most enticing view: a leafy, sunny backyard with a raised patio and an outdoor brick oven meant for pizza and brunch. If the selection on draught—with notable surprises like white beer and Hefeweizen, even Jagermeister—stretch the tavern tradition beyond the norm, the Monday quiz night can reacquaint you with the roots of pub culture.
