Profile

The lounge tucked underneath China 1 occupies a raucous downtown-meets–opium-den dance-party vibe. It’s a smaller, less-posh version of Buddakan, offering a bit more grunge and much less meatpacking glitz. Red lanterns, secluded booths, Buddah statues, and a Forbidden City aesthetic combine with hip-hop–blasting D.J.'s to draw a mixed crowd of fun-seeking twentysomethings downing the lounge's lychee martinis, drunken punches, and Beijing Bellinis. While food isn't typically served downstairs, items from the restaurant menu can be brought down by special request. Don't be deterred by the post–10 p.m. $2 entry fee; those funds are contributed to the lounge's weekly charity donations.
