The super-trendy quickly moved on to swankier shores like the Hudson, but this spacious lounge in the bottom of the Tribeca Grand Hotel still attracts its share of the neighborhood's film and music-industry stars. The mini-Hyatt look isn't going to win any design awards, but the lounge's subdued vibe, plush seating and earth-toned décor can be quite pleasant on a weeknight. Weekends are when the velvet ropes and clipboards come out, and thus a lot more cramped. But it's still an excellent spot to meet for drinks before heading to a party, to dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants. — Charles Runnette

I arrived at 5pm on a Sat. evening to meet two friends, one of whom was staying at the hotel. After sitting there staring at the drinks menu for 20 minutes, I had to go up and ask the hostess to send a waitress to take my order. Then it came 20 minutes later. The drink was watery and poor, and the waitress exuded terrible attitude. The surrounding tables were not bussed, and finally I just left the money for the tab, because she never came back and gave me a bill. When My friends arrived, we promptly left. Awful.

I went here in July of this year with my dear friend who won the NY Lotto in ´99 and although the hotel is pretty impressive, the service in the bar was horrible and full of attitude. We sat down and about 20 minutes later someone came to ask us what we wanted. Thirty minutes later the drinks still hadn´t arrived so we complained. We got some kind of excuse that there were some bar problems. Funny how the table of the couples fondling each other nearby didn´t lack drinks and were served as we waited. Finally, the drinks came about an hour or more after we arrived. My friend said, "these will be on the house" and dismissed our unexperienced waitress-with-attitude. She came back and commented that yes, they were on the house. We already knew that they would be. Maybe it was a bad day but the service was absolutely horrible and if hadn´t been raining so hard we would have gone somewhere else.
