Filled with fresh air and Guinness, and polished within an inch of its life, Clancy's is as inoffensively bland as a midtown Irish pub could possibly be. Every aspect of its atmosphere has been carefully arranged to fluster those who'd prefer an endearing dump—from the hexagonal orange of the stained-glass partitions to the automated top 40 jukebox to the well-appointed back restaurant that doubles as a private party room, shaded by deep reds and mood lighting. The pub's saving grace is a golden promise to televise an endless stream of European soccer, from the Premier League to Series A to La Liga (along with rugby and Gaelic football matches, to boot). Twelve-screen ESPN is hardly unique, but a commitment to the world’s favorite game makes for the pleasant sight of devoted, bleary-eyed crowds, more than willing to weather inconvenient kick-off times and confused stares in order to catch their beloved teams.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
