Profile

Occupying a narrow space at the border of Chinatown, Clockwork doesn’t waste any time inviting you to knock back some drinks. Upon entering, a stretch of marble bar immediately greets you, the wooden shelves behind it display a well-edited range of wines, craft beers, and hard booze. Echoing a newspapered wall of graffiti scrawlings—”Don’t be told what you want,” “I can’t control my brain,”—standard punk rock plays at a non-assaultive volume; Rancid or the Ramones empower you to down that drink and rebel against tomorrow. “I want to be sedated,” spray-painted on a back room wall, affirms the night’s directive. Get right to it with $6 tall boy and a shot or the bar’s tight selection of beers on tap, most notably a pint of Six Point Sweet Action, a citrus-y, cream ale brewed in Brooklyn. The affable bartender might throw a mug or two in, and he’ll even let you write on the wall.
