On early Sunday mornings, after the traffic of the Holland Tunnel has quieted, soulful house can be heard thumping from the speakers that have accompanied DJ Timmy Regisford as he's migrated his club night Shelter from Twilo to Vinyl to here. At his latest digs, you'll find his guiding principles intact: The white-washed gutted interior with its lone mirror ball, cushioned benches and concrete columns indicates that for Regisford, music trumps design. And a roster of lesser-know D.J.s in the basement lounge gives club kids a glimpse of the danceable future. Downstairs, rotating art exhibitions, free coffee, free fruit and retro orange banquettes entice; upstairs, the real party delivers.
