Profile

Elements of this stylish Greenpoint bar's former incarnation as a wood shop are still evident: Old window frames now line the rugged pressed-tin walls and the ceiling beams are used as benches. The industrial double doors, concrete floor, and raised loading dock entrance were left untouched. In the front room, after-work regulars line the chic metal bar that glows with red candles or gather around one of the polished zinc tables lit up with embedded light strips. The best seat in the house is a table behind the DJ booth that's warmed by a fake fireplace. The atmospheric back room provides more seating between turns at the Foosball or pool tables that bask under an enormous and ornate round skylight.

I have to admit, as far as critics go.. i am a beast. I am usually ready to cast cynicism and doubt before even crossing the threshold of an establishment i have not yet frequented. HOWEVER, Coco 66 is a bar of quality. This area of Greenpoint is already ludicrously cool, with Coco 66 being a heavy-weight contender for the title. The bar is sort of split into 3 sections; which means there are kind of differing vibes throughout and you can take the night at your own pace. For example, the DJ plays some tunes at the front; there are tables and chairs in the middle section; and the back has a ping pong table/darts board and sofa. The vibe is unpretentious, everybody seems to be having fun, and drinks are cheap. Go now and enjoy, whatever your mood you will find one section to your liking!! In short, i am a fan.
