These days, Cobble Hill has never looked sleeker, steelier, or trendier, but the modestly named Cody’s American Bar and Grill—nestled among the fast-food chains and corporate gyms—could have existed at any point in the past half-century. Brooklynites suffering from gentrification fatigue will feel right at home in its dark-wood-paneled walls. Nominally a sports bar (a Steelers bar, to be precise), Cody’s boasts so many television screens, showing such a variety of games, that no sports fan need worry about missing a favorite. This shouldn’t deter the rest of us: Unlike most sports bars, Cody’s is blessedly quiet, perfect for a family dinner or a casual date. The menu offers all the comfort-food staples (the chili-cheese fries are irresistible) and a serviceable beer selection, as well as a thoughtful rotation of seasonal cocktails like the chocolate Bailey’s (a dessert in itself).
