Named after the uncle of one of its owners, this workhorse dive has been a Greenpoint fixture for over a decade. Here, the bartender is equal parts den mother and indulgent pal, inquiring after sick grandparents and pouring mixers directly from plastic supermarket bottles. And although days of preparation go into the various holiday decorations, on tap it's Bud and Coors or nothing; the bottled beers are scarcely more diverse. Two large flat-screen TVs (and a host of smaller siblings) are eternally tuned into sports, usually without sound. Connie O's also hosts a pool league on Sundays and darts on Wednesdays. The jukebox, laden with classic rock and Irish drinking songs, favors hip-hop when the young crowd arrives later on. As the bartender calls out, "See you tomorrow," it’s easy for a first-time visitor to feel like part of the family.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
