This laid-back Gramercy watering hole’s penny-hued theme extends past the door—up to the ceiling and onto the trim of the dim lamps glowing over the worn, wooden bar. Not that the sports-fan patrons really notice. On big game nights, young professionals pour in for $12 pitchers (weekends only) and reasonably priced comfort food like shepherd’s pie and pigs in a blanket. The exposed-brick-wall-and-candles interior is flanked by televisions and, if an office party or charity fund-raiser hasn’t staked it out, the back dining room has games broadcast onto a huge projection screen. Weekdays, neighborhood dudes chat with the bartenders. Come weekends, the D.J. take the tunes back to the future, playing safe Top 40 rock and hip-hop.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
