As pool halls go, there are sexier, trendier, and even cheaper options than Corner Billiards. But this renovated hall is doing its best to pocket the finicky Downtown market. With close to 30 immaculate tables, velvet ropes, and an imposing bouncer, the place means business. Serious billiard boys (and girls) come here in droves which means the queue for cues can be especially long on league nights. Recognizing that some people are less interested in an eightball than a highball, the owners have put in a smart zinc bar that serves mojitos, capirinhas, and chocolate martinis. A café menu of pizza and burgers, regular DJ sets, and a slew of after- parties (for the likes of Scissor Sisters, Super Furry Animals and Dresden Dolls) give the room an appealing buzz.

After trading in the token jukebox for a DJ booth, Corner Billiards puts out an unexpected soundtrack that revolves around garage classics, Jamaican dubs and obscure Krautrock.
