Zigzagging between the small rooms and the main dance floor at this massive West Chelsea nightspot could keep even the most attention-deficit-disordered clubber happy. Crobar’s side rooms are home to some of the weirdest after-dark fun since the days of the Tunnel: On a recent Saturday night, Budweiser reps hawking free beer mingled with downtown drag icons and sleazy male strippers. In the main space, crowds of glow-stick-wielding twentysomethings and shirtless Chelsea boys dance to the world’s biggest D.J.’s, like Sasha and Danny Tenaglia. Superbly crisp sound systems make it easy to get lost in the music, no matter where you are. A predictable choice? Sure, but still clubland’s best.

We were lucky to get in?

This is an odd review because we worked so hard to get in--the street was blocked off at both ends and there were 300-400 younger and better dressed people standing in the street waiting to get in (this was even before the club doors opened!) Once inside, we stayed to the bitter end (well, almost) and as hard as we tried; we never did really have a good time. The main floor was so jampacked everywhere that we wound up wearing our drinks several times. We even tried to pay $250 bottle service in hopes of getting a table but all were taken. The music was astonishingly monotonous for hours--the DJ that night was Boris--with no words or tunes and NO ONE DANCED!--even in the middle of the dance floor they mostly stood and drank. Pockets of dancing broke out here and there but it was too little too late. When we left, the street was still packed with people hoping to get in!! (Whenever 4 people come out, apparently, they let 4 more in.) In the future, I would chose a smaller club that really does want you to dance, not just drink.
