In tribute to the reservoir that once stood nearby, this spacious bi-level restaurant-bar keeps the water of life flowing steadily. Although a hand-painted wall mural of the Croton and impeccably folded napkins attempt to entice sit-down orders of NY strip or sesame-crusted yellow fin tuna, the Siemens-building escapees and Condé Nastsies (we’re talking the girls in accounting, not Anna Wintour) tend to gravitate towards the long oak bar for drafts of Blue Point and Hoegaarden or bottles of Chimay and Duvel. Better than average crab cakes and shrimp cocktails loaded with plump South American crustaceans encourage you to nibble while you tipple. Should the plasma screens blind, there are darker quarters (and a faster and looser vibe) downstairs, where satellite radio gets officemates up and out of the roomy leather banquettes sporting backs imposing enough to dam a city’s water supply.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
