You think Midtown Manhattan is loud at rush hour? At Roosevelt Ave. and 61st St.in Woodside, the elevated 7, LIRR trains and DC-10s approaching Laguardia criss-cross in a rolling thunder right above your head. One block up is The Cuckoo's Nest, where you can relax and avoid going cuckoo from the cacophony. Exposed beams and dark paneled walls (not redneck paneling, more like Tudor) make for a cozy atmosphere. When live bands aren’t playing Friday through Sunday nights, patrons can get their fill of sports and Guinness pints. The wait staff will make you feel like you're not in NYC anymore—or even Queens for that matter—but the Emerald Isle, where they take manners seriously.
