Taking its name from a Van Morrison song, (which in turn took its name from a street in Belfast), this no-frills neighborhood bar (from the same owners as the adjoining Black Sheep Pub) lacks the usual Irish-pub trappings, but compensates with cheap drinks and a laid-back attitude. The bar’s exterior is painted an eye-catching red, but inside is more subtle with soft green walls and tables crafted butcher-block style. The menu of pub food (Guinness-battered onion rings, meat pies, mashed potatoes) is the main reminder that Cyprus Avenue has any tie to its namesake country. A smattering of sidewalk chairs allows for alfresco sipping, eating, and smoking until 11pm during the week and midnight on weekends. The reasonably-priced beers go beyond Guinness and include craft brews like Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale and Six Point Sweet Action Ale.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
