Profile

It's been several years since the closing of Universal Bar and Grill, in the space that's now home to Daddy-O, and area residents are still mourning its loss. But they need to get over it: Daddy-O maintains the straights-and-gays-in-harmony atmosphere, while improving the menu and eliminating the tedious kitsch factor that grated during the Universal years. Here the food complements the cocktails (a huge selection of special scotches, tequilas and rums) and not the other way around. The kitchen stays open until 4 a.m. nightly.

Brunch

Sat.–Sun., 11 a.m.–4 p.m.

Best Burger

I've been to Donovan's in Queens, Paul's Burgers in the East Village, and I have to say, Daddy-O's has the best burgers in the city. Plus you get awesome tater tots! I never write these reviews, but when I saw all the negatives, the only conclusion I could draw was that some local competitor was trying to sabotage the place and I had to try to alleviate the damage. A glass of wine is a bit pricey, but otherwise food, service, atmosphere is outstanding. Don't believe the haters.

I got excited when I learned of a new hot-spot burger joint in the West Village. This place definately should not be caterized with WV's reputable restaurant list. Although pleasant to the eye, be prepared to eat yesterday's food. Perhaps expectations ride high for this premium burger, but basic fundamentals behind working the grill are definately missing. I would never return.
