Between gaudy chandeliers made of trumpets and horns to the grating sounds of ambient elevator-funk, it’s hard not to feel this slick Upper West Side wine bar is putting on airs. The drink and food prices will make you think the marble countertops were planned to be paid off by one order of sweet potato chips ($8) at a time, and the cocktails ($14) are as flat and flavorless as the decor. But the saving grace of the pseudo-elegant spot is that it does indeed know its vino, and it stocks an extensive selection. A casual hangout and for large groups it is not, but if you want to toast your first Porsche with your second wife or sneak a glass of malbec with your tennis instructor, then this might be the place.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
