At first look, things seem a little haphazard in this corner East Village bar (owned by former child actor Mason Reese): Mason-jar pendant lamps hang against golden damask wallpaper; black leather mod couches neighbor velvety-pink Victorian sofas; jello shots are downed in front of a jukebox blasting "YMCA." Slowly, though, a theme reveals itself. Trunks used as tables, shelves stacked with souvenirs, framed maps of Tokyo and Berlin, and bathroom walls covered with postcards purchased on eBay—combined with $10 cocktails such as the “Truck Stop Lemonade” and “Mile High Club”—all hint at the same word: travel. The open space is perfect to gather your own crowd, take control of the jukebox, and dance on the couches (if the owners aren’t around). Thankfully, prices aren’t adjusted for tourists.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
