Profile

This venue is closed.

In a neighborhood overrun by Starbucks and sports bars, DT UT stands out as an inviting alternative: a coffee shop and lounge with a touch of downtown personality. At the entry, offbeat baristas dole out cappuccinos, herbal teas, hot cider, and other concoctions—ideally accompanied by one of their delectable desserts or the popular, do-it-yourself ’smores. Plush, slightly sunken sofas and armchairs litter the open space in back. Splashy, abstract paintings and tapestry panels adorn the exposed brick walls, chandeliers dangle from the ceiling, and drapes section off a secluded corner. The mellow, homey vibe consistently attracts a crowd and it can be tricky finding a place to plop among cuddly couples, chatty friends, local high schoolers, and various patrons attempting to read, work, or log on with the café’s high speed wireless connection. In the evenings, the staff dims the lights, sets out candles, and ups the background music. Stop by on a weeknight and forgo caffeine for wine and beer.
