Mere mortals looking to test themselves here should be forewarned: The populace is an intimidating mix of tic-ridden beanpoles and Super Mario clones who probably dream about spherical geometry. Eastside is a stick-shooter's oasis, with one large room full of regulation Brunswick tables sporting tournament-grade cloth; it's strictly business with little to no pick-up scene or bar traffic. The atmosphere is upper-echelon rec room, with gray carpeting, leather sofas, iPod tunes, and even frozen pizzas reheated in a toaster oven. Those who don't play pool can watch sports on a projector TV or, as perhaps makes more sense, try to improve their game by taking paid lessons from an Eastside regular. — John Metcalfe
