The Upper West Side is no longer a culinary desert, but its nightlife still
leaves something to be desired. There are far too many 24-hour Duane

and party-hearty dives. Which makes Eden, a sleek cocktail boîte, all the more
welcome. Like its owners, it's French in
flavor, with croques monsieurs on the menu and lots of Gallic pop on the
sound system—some of it so retro you'll feel like you're cruising the
Croisette in a big-old Merc coupe with Brigitte Bardot.

Shame On You: Eden Bar Follow-Up
A CBS 2 Special Report
May 25, 2004 11:00 pm US/Eastern
NEW YORK (CBS) Just last week, we sent a black couple with a hidden camera into the Eden Bar on Broadway and 105th to again test the popular nightspot for racial discrimination...
Well, the owner promised there would be changes made and based upon the results of our recent test it seems he's kept his word...
The new manager was both friendly and accommodating, offering the black couple lots of open dates in June.
“How do I book it?,” our undercover tester asked. “Just tell me, we put it down, it's easy,” the manager said.
No problems. Just the way it should be.

We were dying for a place like Eden when we were at Columbia. It's chic enough to make you feel like you're going OUT but not at all pretentious. Food is excellent, staff classy but laid back. What more could you want? Spread the word, this place deserves to get the critical mass of "those in the know" to keep it alive for generations to come.
