Profile

Down under the restaurant, this boite is exactly what NoLIta has long needed: a subdued, stylishly appointed sanctuary for grown-ups who don't need to be among a crowd of identically dressed trendies to feel validated. Don't leave without splurging on one of the luscious house cocktails, like the Pacific Passion (a margarita made with passionfruit juice). Or sample New Zealand and Australian wines, also featured in the upstairs dining room.

Extra

Eight Mile Creek is a stream near the owners' Australian hometown.

On my many excursions to Soho, I stumbled upon this unique restaurant/bar. The richly colored wooden facade on the outside, the warm inviting restaurant, the well appointed back garden and the ambient down stairs bar all come together to say: this place has been home to some great times. You may arrive to enjoy the amazing Australian cuisine or the equally amazing Australian wine selection but once you enter you will instinctively know that Eight Mile Creek is very different from most restaurants in Manhattan. The great service from the bartenders and wait staff is accentuated by the fact they are having as much fun as you are. They have summer BBQs in the back garden every Sunday in aid of Adelaide’s childrens' hospital, monthly wine tastings and numerous off the cuff events, that all work together to make the bar a hub for many an individual's social life. Eight Mile Creek can become addictive; if not because of the food/wine, then because of the people you will meet. I truly recommend that you go and when you do I'll probably see you there.
