For those transplants just grafted onto Park Slope, or those young professionals who haven’t picked out jogging strollers just yet, there’s Ellis Bar. The place has a casual southwestern theme: there are pictures of cowboys and sunsets, a hide nailed to the wall, and a menu—big plates of tapas meant for sharing, and entrees featuring rattlesnake and catfish—inspired by the region. The Navajo fry bread is warm, flaky, and delicious (think funnel cake minus the sugar), and the sweet-red-pepper jelly is so good it might make you rethink peanut butter altogether. There are plenty of youthful diversions here, too, like indie rock on the jukebox, board games stashed amongst the books on the shelves, and trivia-night Tuesdays.
