On a block populated by such preening Soho destinations as Sly Bar and Sway, the Emerald Pub is remarkable primarily for its clientele: unadulterated, regular Joes. Crouched in a nondescript brick building, this reliable corner tavern pulls in end-of-shift drivers from the nearby UPS distribution center, office workers from Varick Street, and West Villagers on their way home. The basic interior, unambiguous jukebox, and pleasant bar staff add up to an easy-to-swallow formula that's kept customers coming back since barkeep Paddy Reilly opened the place in 1972. Now, the Emerald's helmed by native Irishman Damian Dolan, who's taken to stocking 30 different vodkas alongside a commendable selection of beers.
