This Nolita wine bar is as unassumingly romantic as a café just outside of Rome, with white-painted brick walls and large windows (left open in the nice weather) lending a rustic air. Good-looking Italian bartenders offer up a variety of wines from all over the Old Country, or brew coffee from the espresso machine located behind the dark wood bar, next to an antique cash register. Well-dressed 30-somethings from the neighborhood come to chat with friends or read at the bar, munching on a cheese plate or crostini. In an area that has the feel of an intellectual’s living room, abstract paintings and shelves full of books line the walls and cushioned benches and an antique plush sofa surround a low coffee table, where couples are occasionally inspired to cozy up by the dim lamp-light and jazzy music.
