The lowdown
Farrell’s is the real McCoy, dating back to 1933, when Park Slope was Irish and Irish meant tough. They’ve finally added stools, but there’s still no table service, so belly up to the long bar and shout your order. Ordering a large beer — i.e., Budweiser — will get you a 32-ounce Styrofoam bucket. A few members of the fairer sex do show up: Shirley MacLaine caused quite a neighborhood scandal when she insisted on being the first unchaperoned woman to be served here, in the early ‘70s.
