Despite its location on the edges of the Fashion District, Fashion 40 has been widely panned for its decidedly unfashionable crowd. But you can’t help but sense all that’s keeping Seventh on Sixth fashionistas from this loft-like space with an upstairs lounge outfitted in chocolate swivel chairs, beige leather benches, and Trix-colored throw pillows is the right high-powered publicist. A weekday happy hour draws the usual afterwork schlubs, while weekend DJs spinning Latin, hip-hop, and R&B attract the young and multiculti. The bar serves up specialty cocktails but it’s best to stick to simpler concoctions like the Lychee Martini, whose proportions of va-va-voom vodka and sweet Asian fruit are far more palatable. — Carla Spartos
