Yes, Moroccan chic is out of date, but Fez, like bell—bottoms and the Rolling Stones, has outlived the era associated with its style. Located above Time Cafe, this bar offers expertly mixed cocktails and artful cocktail-table decor, despite often cramped surroundings.

Fez uptown insane door policy

On Fri, August 27 my boyfriend and I were supposed to attend a friend's birthday party at the uptown location of Fez. When I arrived, I found my boyfriend standing outside. He explained that he had been stopped at the door by the manager and told that he was "not dressed appropriately." (He was wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.) I went inside and asked to speak with the manager of the club, but only got as far as the manager of Time Café, Fez's sister restaurant. She listened to our story and asked us to wait while she got Fez's manager. We watched her talk with Fez's manager in the back for a few minutes, then she returned and said, "I'm sorry, he is too busy to speak with you right now." Meanwhile, we watched scores of men clad in T-shirts and baggy jeans walk right in without any problem. At this point, we called our friend on his cell phone to explain the situation, and he opted to move his party elsewhere. Apparently the uptown Fez doesn't need certain people's business. Stick to the downtown location, where you can enjoy yourself without the nasty attitude.
