This Upper West Side fixture has enough firefighting regalia to outfit its own hook and ladder company. Fire hydrants and extinguishers, call boxes, hoses, red lanterns and helmets adorn the exposed brick walls. Not surprisingly, the bar attracts local off-duty firefighters, as well as a mixed crew of thirtysomething regulars, including construction workers and Wall Street brokers. Thirteen TVs are tuned to New York sports and the jukebox plays mostly eighties rock. Beer is the drink of choice here, with bottles (Sierra Nevada, Harpoon IPA, Brooklyn Lager) kept on ice in whimsical red bathtubs behind the bar. For the ladies with a sweet tooth, frozen strawberry margaritas are on hand. Weather permitting, the outdoor café possesses a sizeable menu including fiery Buffalo wings, chili, burgers, individual pizzas, fajitas, burritos and quesadillas.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
