Not El Flamingo but the Flamingo, one of the East Village's first upscale bars, comprises two levels: a long, dark, charcoal-walled room with a sleek bar and candlelight glinting off mirrors and chilled bottles, and a parlor-like suite of high-ceilinged rooms, up a narrow side staircase, where parties are held (with a mild cover charge). NYC's premier lesbian club night, the Clit Club, has moved from dearly departed Mother to Flamingo and features female DJs, go-go dancers, performance art and dykes of every stripe. — Lissa T.
